Kaylee Langen is an emerging local artist based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She is a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan Fine Arts program with High Honours and recipient of the Mina Forsyth BFA Collection Scholarship. Kaylee continues her exploration on themes of domesticated animals, adaptations, and the abnormalities that are present in the everyday.

Art enables me to form a connection towards my subject matter. Through art, I create a bond that cannot be described through words, but rather, experience. Through my work I give a voice to beings, abstractions and forms that cannot communicate verbally.

My work is inspired by animals that have been altered by humanity in some way, shape or form. I aim to capture moments of “abnormalities" that come with animal domestication and existing in an unnatural setting. Through the use of mark-making, distortion, and scale, I hope to bring a sense of engagement as though the viewer is standing right next to the subject on the paper. Though my subject matter cannot speak, it communicates its emotions and experience on the page loud and clear.
